Latest Michigan football buzz surrounding newly converted cornerback

During spring ball, one of the most prominent storylines in Ann Arbor revolved around sophomore athlete Amorion Walker, who was moved from wide receiver to cornerback to meet a significant team need. After garnering a lot of positive buzz during spring and fall camp, it’s finally time to see what this new Michigan football corner has got. He will be competing with Josh Wallace for a starting spot at CB2, opposite CB1 Will Johnson, which is a substantial role, to say the least. Recently, senior captain Mike Sainristil, also a converted corner, had the opportunity to provide the latest updates on Walker.

Michigan football captain Mike Sainristil comments on new cornerback

Having been named a team captain last week, Mike Sainristil spoke with the media about all aspects of the Michigan football program. Here’s the latest information we have regarding converted cornerback Amorion Walker as we approach the 2023 season opener.

“Amorion, he’s doing a great job,” Sainristil said. “He’s here all the time, meeting with Coach Clink (Steve Clinkscale), doing his best to learn the playbook. I feel like where he’s grown from spring ball to now is not getting frustrated with the things that he doesn’t understand yet. He asked me a lot like, ‘You switched from offense to defense, What helped that transition? What made the game slow down for you when you came to defense?’”

“And then just focusing on the technique,” he continued, “little things, the small details. In press, ‘I don’t always have to be on top of routes. I’m a guy that can run with literally anybody. I’m taller than most receivers I go against. I’m probably stronger than anybody I go against.’ So, him understanding of those things has helped the game slow down for him, and I’m excited for when he gets back. I feel like he is another one that is gonna do great things.”

Amorion Walker is reason for excitement in Ann Arbor

It sounds like Josh Wallace, a transfer from UMass, is in great shape for the starting role right now; however, Walker is still in the running to see some major reps this year. Walker has been battling some sort of injury ahead of the 2023 season, so there is a chance that he comes out of the gate limited in hopes of being back to 100% by Big Ten play.

Regardless, there are many reasons to expect big things from Amorion Walker and the Michigan football cornerback room this fall.
