Former NFL WR Makes Bold Claim On Commanders’ Jayden Daniels

The discussion was birthed after news broke about Daniels and wide receiver Malik Nabers—who were teammates at LSU—having a $10,000 wager concerning who will have a better rookie campaign between the two young stars.

All of that aside, Burress likes Daniels to win the award.

Daniels is coming off of a spectacular season in which he threw for 3,812 yards, 40 touchdowns and four interceptions while completing 72.2 percent of his passes. He also racked up 1,134 yards and 10 scores on the ground, averaging an incredible 8.4 yards per carry. He won the Heisman Trophy for his efforts.

The 23-year-old began his collegiate career at Arizona State and spent three years there before transferring to LSU in 2022.

Daniels put forth a decent showing in his debut campaign with the Tigers, totaling 2,913 yards, 17 touchdowns and three picks through the air while adding 885 yards and 11 scores as a rusher.

But, obviously, his breakthrough season occurred this past year.

Daniels will be joining a Commanders club that lost its final nine straight games to end 2023. Washington has not posted a winning record since 2015 and has been starving for a franchise quarterback for decades. It came close to finding one with Kirk Cousins, but he ultimately departed for the Minnesota Vikings in free agency in 2018.

Washington has made just six playoff appearances since 1993 and has not won a postseason game since January 2006, so there is a lot of responsibility on Daniels’ shoulders to turn things around.

Will Daniels start right out of the gate? The Commanders signed Marcus Mariota in free agency, so there is a chance that Washington sits Daniels at first. That’s probably only a slim chance, though.

More than likely, Daniels will be under center for the Commanders in Week 1.

Washington probably won’t be contending for much of anything this coming season, but perhaps Jayden Daniels can at least give the languishing franchise some hope moving forward.
