Watch: Islanders avoid elimination with double-overtime win

We had our first double-overtime game of the Stanley Cup Playoffs on Saturday afternoon, and it resulted in the New York Islanders avoiding elimination and sending their first-round series against the Carolina Hurricanes to a fifth game.

Mathew Barzal ended up getting the winner to give the Islanders their first win of the series.

Have a look.

Barzal did a great job to help force a turnover and then positioned himself in front of the net to deflect in a Robert Bortuzzo shot from the blue line.

That was Barzal's second goal of the game.

The Hurricanes have clearly been the better team through the first four games of the series, dominating the games territorially and dramatically outshooting and out-chancing the Islanders. But New York is not going to go away quietly and has the type of goaltending that can get hot at any moment and flip a series over.

Only four teams in NHL history have ever overcome a 3-0 series deficit. The Islanders are going to have their work cut out for them to be the fifth time. They will continue to attempt it in Game 5 on Tuesday night when the series shifts back to Raleigh.
